Vipers Strike Short-Handed Legends

A short-handed Texas Legends (0-1) team dropped their regular season opener 105-122 against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (1-0) Saturday night in Frisco.

Texas took over midway through the first and held their lead through the half, taking a 55-53 edge to the break. The game took a turn in the third as the home team came out cold. Another double-digit quarter from Tyler Bey helped propel the Vipers to a double-digit gap at the buzzer that they would carry through the final minutes.

Olin Carter III led the Legends with 21 points, hitting 5-of-9 outside. Loudon Love set a new team season-high with 4 blocks while recording 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. Feron Hunt added 14 points, 2 assists, and JaQuori McLaughlin and Isaiah Brown each added 11 points for Texas.

Bey led all scorers with 31 points, and a game-high 17 rebounds. Marcus Foster and Kahlil Whitney added 19 points apiece, and Marvin Smith and Trhae Mitchell teamed up for 14 each. Smith also grabbed 11 boards contributing to RGV’s 53 on the night.
