SQUADRON TAKE REGULAR SEASON OPENER AGAINST SHORT-HANDED LEGENDS

BIRMINGHAM, AL (Dec. 29, 2022) - The Texas Legends (0-1) opened the regular season on the road with a loss to the Birmingham Squadron (1-0) 101-134 in the first of a back-to-back.
Birmingham got off to a quick start forging a 19-point lead in just over six minutes. They held the advantage from tipoff to final buzzer, building as large as a 35-point deficit against the short-handed Legends in the final quarter.
Grant Riller led the Legends’ scoring with 23 points, while Josh Nzeakor neared a double-double with 8 points, 9 rebounds. Yudai Baba had a team-high 5 assists with 9 points, 5 rebounds, and Tyler Hall finished with 18 points. Taze Moore added 15 points, 3 rebounds, and Mouhamadou Gueye came off the bench for 14 points, 6 rebounds.
The Squadron had seven players tally double-digits including all five starters. Kelan Martin had a game-high 26 points, 4 assists while James Kelly Sr. added the only double-double of 14 points, 10 rebounds. Texas will look to get revenge tomorrow with a rematch at 7pm CT.
