Squadron Can't Keep Up With Jones

Carlik Jones led the game in both scoring and assists to power the Texas Legends (3-0) past the Birmingham Squadron (2-1) 108-100 Friday night in Frisco.

After nine lead changes, Texas took control late in the second and never looked back.  Jones led the Legends’ second quarter efforts with 16 of the team’s 36 points to push the lead to nine at the half.  The largest lead of the night came in the third, when Texas went up by 14, but Birmingham responded with a 13-0 run to come within one.  Birmingham kept the gap to single digits in the fourth, but JaQuori McLaughlin went 6-of-6 at the line in the final minute to hold off the rally attempts.

Jones totaled 34 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals on the night.  Mavericks Two-Way Eugene Omoruyi made his Legends debut with a full slate of 14 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and a block, and Justin Jackson added his second double-double of the season with 16 points, 10 rebounds.  Brandon Fields finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals off the bench joined by Yudai Baba who knocked down 5-of-6 for 11 points, 2 steals.  JaQuori McLaughlin rounded out the double-digit scorers with 17 points, 3 assists.

All five Birmingham starters finished with double digits led by Joe Young with 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.  Pelicans assignee Didi Louzada added 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Malcolm Hill and Jared Harper tallied 15 each, and Zylan Cheatam put up 12 points while grabbing 6 boards.
