SECOND-HALF SLUMP SINKS LEGENDS IN MEXICO CITY

MEXICO CITY, MX (Dec. 27, 2023) - The Texas Legends (0-1) opened the regular season with a close loss in Mexico City, falling to the Capitanes (1-0) 114-120. 

Texas got off to a hot start in the first, knocking down 81%, 86% outside and taking a 29-point lead before the first buzzer.  The Capitanes had the deficit down to 14 at the half and used a 34-14 third quarter to take their first lead of the night.  The home team opened the final quarter with a 6-0 run to take their largest lead of the night (+12).  With the tables turned, Texas fought back and hit a 7-0 run midway through the fourth to cut the difference to two.  Dexter Dennis (12) and Greg Brown (9) combined for 21 fourth-quarter points, but Texas was unable to close the gap. 

Tony Bradley led the Legends with 22 points, 10 rebounds while Greg Brown III finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds.  Theo Pinson clipped 3-of-6 outside for 20 points, 7 rebounds off the bench and Dexter Dennis tagged on 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.  Justin Jackson rounded out the double figures with 16 points, 7 assists, and 3 steals. 

Ethan Thompson led the Capitanes’ scoring efforts with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists while Kenneth Faried added 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 blocks off the bench.  Phillip Wheeler finished with 19 points, 6 rebounds in his Mexico City debut and Alexey Borges finished with a full plate of 19 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks.  The Legends get a rematch tomorrow night at 8pm on Urban Edge Network (UEN app and urbanedge.network).  The team returns home Saturday night to host the South Bay Lakers at 7:30pm.  For tickets or information call 214-469-0822 or visit www.TexLegends.com.
