FRISCO, TX, (Feb. 9, 2023) – A career-high performance from Grant Riller helped end a 4-game skid for the Texas Legends (5-10) with a 130-121 win over the Iowa Wolves (5-12).
PJ Dozier posted a perfect first quarter, knocking down 6-of-6 for 15 points. Iowa led for the first 16 minutes, hitting their largest gap of the night (+15) late in the first. Texas faced a 10-point deficit opening the second but answered with a 17-2 run to take their first lead of the game. A three-point play from Riller put his second quarter tally at 12 and bumped Texas to an 11-point edge with just under two minutes in the half. The Wolves chipped away but halftime saw the Legends lead 65-59.
The visitors opened the second half with seven unanswered points in less than two minutes to start the third with their largest lead of the game (+13). At the 4:15 mark, the home team pulled within three but the two finished at 32-each to end the third with Texas up by six again. Four minutes into the fourth, Texas regained a double-digit edge leading 110-98 before a 10-0 run put the home team within one possession. The Wolves stayed within striking distance for the remainder of the fourth but Riller put up 15 of his 19 points in the final four minutes to keep Texas on top.
Riller finished with 46 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Tyler Hall added 19 points, 5 rebounds, and Taze Moore tallied 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Amauri Hardy and Todd Withers added 11 points each off the bench while Mouhamadou Gueye tagged on 10 points, 3 blocks.
PJ Dozier led Iowa with 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists, and D.J. Carton added 17 points, 12 assists. Jordy Tshimanga also grabbed a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
