Official Release | November 4, 2018

The Texas Legends grabbed a wire-to-wire victory over the defending G League Champion Austin Spurs, putting a 126-120 damper on their home opener and ring night.

Texas grabbed the immediate lead with just seconds ticked off the clock behind a jumper from Keith Hornsby. The visitors kept rolling to a nine-point advantage shooting 57% in the first. The lead grew to 17 before the half as both teams started to heat up. Texas shot 63% overall and 60% outside while Austin knocked down 67% outside and 60% overall to finish out the half with an eight-point difference.

Dallas Mavericks two-way player Daryl Macon came out of the break firing, knocking down 3-of-4 from outside in the third and tallying 21 of his 35 in the second half. Austin matched the Legends’ third quarter scoring efforts to keep the game within single digits heading into the final minutes. The Spurs cut the lead to five early in the fourth, but a 6-0 run from the Legends set the tone for a back-and-forth finale. Texas answered every rally effort from the home team and sealed the victory with consistency at the free throw line.

Jameel Warney paced the Legends with a double-double grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds, 17 points, and adding 2 assists, 2 steals. Macon finished with a game-high 35 points, shooting 75% on the night. Codi Miller-McIntyre added 19 points and led the team in assists (6) and steals (4), and Mavericks assignee Ray Spalding tabbed 18 points, 6 rebounds. Kostas Antetokounmpo (13 points, 4 rebounds), Keith Hornsby (12 points, 3 rebounds), and Rashad Vaughn (10 points) rounded out the double-digit scoring.

Jaron Blossomgame led the Spurs with 31 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists while three other Spurs finished with 20-point games. Julian Washburn added 23 points, 5 rebounds, Drew Eubanks hit 9-of-10 for 22 points, 9 rebounds, and Amida Brimah came off the bench for a 20 point, 10 rebound double-double.
