Legends Thwart Lakers In Thriller In L.A.

Moses Wright had his third straight 30-point game to help lead the Texas Legends (16-14) to a 2-0 finish against the South Bay Lakers (17-10) with a 113-112 win Tuesday night.

The game stayed within single digits all four quarters, with South Bay taking the largest lead at +9.  After 11 lead changes in the first half, the Lakers maintained control through most of the second.  South Bay held a nine-point edge with 7 minutes to go in the third, but Texas tied it up and ultimately came within one before the buzzer sounded.

After more than three scoreless minutes, the Lakers hit first early in the fourth, knocking down eight unanswered to go back to a 9-point gap.  The Legends were down 104-110 with 2:26 on the clock and hit a 7-2 run to the :30 second mark.  Carlik Jones knocked down both from the line to put Texas up by one, and James Banks III swatted the Lakers’ final effort at the buzzer.

Wright finished with 33 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.  Banks came off the bench for the Legends’ only double-double of 12 points, 11 rebounds.  Justin Jackson tagged on 19 points, 5 assists, and Jones added 17 points, 7 assists.

Jay Huff led South Bay’s scoring with 27 points, 9 rebounds, and Chaundee Brown Jr. grabbed a double-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds.  Mason Jones and Tremont Waters added 16 points apiece.
