The Texas Legends (14-12) used Friday night’s falter to fuel their way to a big win on the road against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (12-13) 125-98 on Saturday.
The two teams stayed close through the first quarter with Texas taking the largest lead (+9) eight minutes in. The Vipers answered with seven straight and regained the lead with seconds on the clock before Isaiah Roby sealed the quarter with a slam to put Texas on top 22-21. The Legends took control in the second and built a double-digit deficit minutes in. Trahson Burrell powered out a 16-point quarter to help Texas build a 20-point gap at the buzzer. The Legends continued to pull away in the second half, building up their largest lead of the night in the fourth up 39.
Burrell led the Legends with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists while Moses Brown, Antonius Cleveland, and Brandon Fields all added double-doubles. Cleveland tagged on 19 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, a steal and a block, Brown finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and a block, and Fields tallied 14 points, 12 assists, and 2 steals. Aric Holman put up 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, and Yudai Baba had season-highs with 14 points and 7 assists.
William Howard led the Vipers’ scoring efforts with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Brandon Sampson tagged on a 20-point effort with 3 rebounds and 2 assists, and Isaiah Taylor added 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists.
