HIDALGO, TX, (Dec. 21, 2017) – The Texas Legends (9-10) tied their season scoring record but were unable to overcome the Vipers (15-6) in the Rio Grande Valley Thursday night, falling 129-137.

Texas briefly grabbed a lead in the early minutes, but the Vipers led the rest of the game. The gap stayed in the single digits through the first, but RGV knocked down seven threes to pull away in the second, outscoring the visitors 41-28 in 12 minutes.

The home team took their largest lead of the night (+22) coming out of the locker room but Justin Dentmon responded with 17 third-quarter points to cut the deficit to 12 going into the final quarter. With 42 seconds to play, the Legends found themselves within 5, but a 6-0 streak at the free throw line would seal the game for the Vipers.

Dentmon led all scorers with 45 points on 15-of-24 (8-of-14 outside) while Wade Baldwin IV added 32 points, 5 assists, and 6 steals. Jameel Warney came one rebound short of a double-double with 13 points, 9 boards and a season-high 5 blocks. The team shot a season-high 54% on the way to their high score but allowed a season-high from their opponents who finished at 57% and 59% outside.

Demetrius Jackson led the Vipers with 28 points while Chris Walker grabbed the game’s only double-double of 19 points, 11 rebounds. Julien Lewis was a perfect 6-6 from outside to finish with 22 points for the home team.
