SANTA CRUZ, CA, (Feb. 2, 2024) – The Texas Legends (8-6) fought back from 20-point deficits twice but ultimately fell short 122-119 in overtime to the Santa Cruz Warriors (8-6).
After trailing for most of the first, the Warriors went on a 20-2 run to lead 38-25 at the break. The home team’s domination continued in the second as they extended their advantage to 22 before the half.
Facing a 17-point deficit out of the locker room, Olivier-Maxence Prosper grabbed the first basket for Texas setting a 10-0 run in motion. After coming within 7, the Legends allowed a 6-0 run from the home team who then finished the quarter with 8 straight to take their largest lead of the night (+24) going into the fourth. Texas heated up in the fourth, led by Mike Miles Jr. with 12 of his 15 points and 4 rebounds. The Legends hit 54% and 42% outside to outscore the Warriors 42-18 and force extra minutes. The Legends knocked down 3-of-6 in overtime compared to 2-of-7 from Santa Cruz, but the home team finished perfect 4-of-4 from the line to take the victory.
Greg Brown III led the Legends’ scoring efforts with 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 blocks to match his season high. Justin Jackson added 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists joined in double-double status by Prosper with 18 points, 13 rebounds. Jordan Walker came off the bench for 19 points along with Miles who finished with 15 points, 6 rebounds. Theo Pinson rounded out the double figures with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Donovan Williams led all scorers with 28 points, 9 rebounds while Yuri Collins added 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 10 assists for the Warriors.
