FRISCO, TX, (July 25, 2023) - The Dallas Mavericks announced a number of promotions within the basketball operations department including a new General Manager and a new Head Coach for the Legends. Jordan Sears will step in as the franchise’s seventh Head Coach and Terry Sullivan takes over as General Manager. Sullivan will continue his duties as Mavericks Director of Player Personnel.
Sullivan, who has been with the Mavericks for 13 years, just wrapped up his first season as Director of Player Personnel. The Dallas native graduated from Providence College, where as a student he served as men’s basketball video assistant. He spent the following year as an assistant coach with Catholic University before joining the Los Angeles Clippers staff as a video intern.
Sullivan returned to Dallas in 2010, joining the Mavericks for the 2010-11 championship run as a video scout. He served in that role until 2015 when he was promoted to the front office as Director of Internal Analytics. In that role, he oversaw the team’s player development interns and helped develop that program into one of the premier internships in the NBA. In 2019, Sullivan was promoted to Director of Basketball Administration and has been an integral part of building the Mavericks’ roster through scouting, video review and analysis to help prepare the team for draft, free agency, and trades.
“Our goal is to develop players, coaches and staff in Frisco that can ultimately contribute to the success of the Mavericks,” said Sullivan. “We want to put a competitive, entertaining product on the court for our fans while continuing the Legends’ longstanding close ties with the Mavericks. I’m grateful to Nico Harrison for this opportunity and can’t wait to get started.”
Sears has been a member of the Mavericks staff for the past two seasons as the Head Video Coordinator. Prior to joining Dallas, Sears was on the staff of the 2021 Milwaukee Bucks’ championship team. He was a video intern and assistant video coordinator for the Bucks from 2019-2021 assisting with player development of NBA All-Stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton.
The Plainfield, N.J. native played Division III basketball for Wesleyan University, where he was the 2018 NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year. He spent the 2018-19 season as a graduate assistant at St. John’s University.
“I’m thrilled to get to Frisco to help develop our players, staff, and franchise,” said Sears. “I’ve heard about the unique experience, the incredible fanbase, and the community focus of the Legends. This is a great opportunity for me both personally and professionally to come into such a high-energy, supportive atmosphere with a team that’s focused on working hard and having fun doing it.” Legends 2023-24 season tickets are on sale now.
