The Texas Legends have acquired guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes from the Westchester Knicks in exchange for forward Jameel Warney, pending successful completion of physicals by both players.
Rathan-Mayes (6-4, 210, Florida State) played three seasons for the Seminoles averaging 12.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.0 steal in 100 career games and earning ACC honors two of three seasons. As a rookie, Rathan-Mayes joined the New York Knicks training camp, seeing action in three preseason games prior to being allocated to Westchester. The Ontario native played 43 games (41 starts) with Westchester last season averaging 16.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 7.1 assists, and 2.1 steals and earning a Call-Up to the Memphis Grizzlies. In five games with the Grizzlies, Rathan-Mayes averaged 5.8 points, 1.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.2 steals in 23.6 minutes per game. Rathan-Mayes joined the Knicks earlier this week after beginning the season in Greece averaging 9.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 17 games.
Warney (6-8, 250, Stony Brook) played 22 games with the Legends this season racking up seven double-doubles and averaging 13.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.6 steals. The New Jersey native joined the Legends as a rookie affiliate from Dallas Mavericks training camp after spending four seasons with the SeaWolves earning America East honors every year and AEC Player of the Year three times. Last season Warney earned his first NBA Call-Up to the Dallas Mavericks seeing action in three games and was named USA Basketball’s Male Athlete of the Year and All-NBA G League 1st Team.
