Using a 27-point performance from Talen Horton-Tucker, the South Bay Lakers (14-21) handed the Texas Legends (19-17) their worst loss of the season 140-98.
The visitors grabbed the first lead with a long ball from David Stockton and took off to an eight-point advantage before Texas made the board. Midway through the first the Legends caught up and took the lead with just over five minutes left. Texas hit an 8-0 streak to take their largest lead of the night, but the Lakers regained control in the final seconds. South Bay extended the lead to double-digits in the second, taking a 66-51 advantage into the half.
The Lakers shut the home team down in the third to build a gap that proved unbreachable. After a 17-point performance in the third, Texas nearly doubled their output in the fourth. The Legends fired at 50% for the fourth but South Bay was knocking down 57% and 33% outside to stay far out of reach. Devontae Cacok tipped in the final shot to put the Lakers up 42, their largest lead of the night.
Antonius Cleveland led the Legends with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and a block while Cameron Payne doubled the double-doubles with 10 points, 11 assists, and 2 rebounds. Jaylen Hoard came off the bench for 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Josh Reaves finished with 12 points, 4 steals. Dakota Mathias rounded off the double-digit scoring with 10 points, 3 rebounds. The Legends saw 12 of 13 active players score but finished the night shooting 39% from the field, 22% outside, and 52% from the free throw; South Bay knocked down over 50% in all categories and controlled the boards 53-46.
LA Lakers assignee Talen Horton-Tucker led the scoring with 27 points, 5 rebounds while Devontae Cacok and Pierre Jackson added 24 points each. Cacok shot 10-of-14 and added 11 rebounds, 3 steals, while David Stockton tallied the Lakers’ other double-double with 16 points, 10 assists.
