Wade Baldwin IV grabbed his third 24-point game in four appearances with the Texas Legends (8-19), but the Memphis Hustle (16-10) got the best of Texas on the road 120-103.
Texas grabbed the first points of the game, but Memphis quickly answered with an 8-0 run. Shooting 54%, the Hustle got a hot start running up a 12-point difference at the first buzzer. Both teams heated up in the second with Memphis knocking down 62% to take their largest lead of the night (+25). Texas used a 50% clip to chip away at the deficit and faced a 62-45 mark at the half.
Baldwin came out firing in the third, tabbing 10 points for the visitors en route to a 33-30 quarter. With three minutes in the third the Legends had pulled within three, but Memphis finished with a 13-2 run knocking down three outside shots to take a 14-point edge into the final minutes. Baldwin kicked into gear again with minutes to play, cutting the Legends’ deficit to eight at 2:49 on the clock, but the home team went full speed to the finish, knocking down nine unanswered points to take a 2-0 lead on the season series.
Each team had six players finish with double-digit scores with Memphis finishing at 57% on the night and 47% outside while Texas ended at 46% and 35% outside. Baldwin rounded out his team-high score with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Caleb Swanigan grabbed a double-double off the bench with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks, and Daryl Macon tallied 13 points and led the team with 6 assists and 4 steals.
Tyler Harvey led the Hustle’s scoring efforts with 28, hitting 8-of-12 from outside, and dishing a game-high 8 assists. Jarnell Stokes finished with a double-double grabbing 20 points, 12 rebounds.
