FRISCO, TX, (Aug. 19, 2022) - The Texas Legends have announced the return of Head Coach George Galanopoulos for the 2022-23 season. Galanopoulos enters his third season as head coach with a 51-40 record, owning the franchise’s first playoff win.

“We are thrilled to have George back at the helm leading our team,” said Legends General Manager Al Whitley.  “George prioritizes community, character, and family, all the values the Legends and Mavericks organizations hold highest. We’ve seen his success developing players and building a winning culture both on and off the court and we’re excited to welcome him back for another year of doing just that.”

Galanopoulos’ first season as head coach was a return to his roots for the former Legends assistant. His team finished 24-19 before the season was cut short, ranking fifth in the Western Conference and poised for a playoff run. When the Chicago native returned for the 2021-22 season, the roster saw a record nine NBA Call-Ups and finished with 27 wins, including the team’s first playoff victory coming on the road in Birmingham. The 33-year-old Chicago native is the sixth coach in Legends’ history.

“The past two seasons have been incredible,” said Galanopoulos. “The experiences we’ve had on the court and in the community have been extremely impactful.  I’m beyond grateful to the Texas Legends and Dallas Mavericks for another opportunity to be a part of something so special.”

Galanopoulos joined the Dallas Mavericks’ bench for Summer League last month earning his first head coaching experience at the NBA level as the Mavericks took on the Utah Jazz.  Later this month he returns to his role as Ugandan National Coach for the fifth year as the team enters the World Cup Qualifiers.

“We’re very excited to get back on the court and, more importantly, make a difference in the community.  The meaning and purpose with which this organization operates drives everyone to be better people.  I’m humbled to be a part of it for another memorable year with the best fans in sports.”
