DORSEY SPOILS MAGIC’S TRICK

FRISCO, TX, (Nov. 21, 2022) – The Texas Legends (4-3) fought off a late rally attempt from the Lakeland Magic (3-4) to hold onto a wire-to-wire victory 141-133.  Two-way Tyler Dorsey knocked down eight threes in the first half and finished with a career-high night.

The Legends took an early lead and never looked back.  Lakeland tied it up five minutes in, but a 14-4 run put the Legends at a double-digit edge.  Midway through the second, the home team had built their largest lead of the night (+27), and after a 30-point half from Tyler Dorsey, Texas went into the break up 76-55. 

The Magic found their shot in the fourth, hitting at 65%.  With eight minutes to play, Lakeland hit a 12-0 run that would bring them in striking distance and found themselves within five with under a minute to play.  Dorsey knocked down 3-of-4 from the line and Mouhamadou Gueye slammed one in in the final seconds to seal the victory. 

Texas dominated outside, finishing the night with 22 threes to Lakeland’s eight.  Dorsey accounted for eight of those en route to a career-high 41 points.  Jaden Hardy added 25 points, and McKinley Wright IV grabbed his second straight double-double with 17 points, 7 rebounds, and another season-high 14 assists.  Tyler Hall knocked down 6-of-8 outside to finish with 18 points, 3 steals, and Gueye tallied 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals.  Grant Riller came off the bench for the final double-digit finish with 14 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals. 

Lakeland had seven players in double figures, led by Zavier Simpson and Jay Scrubb who combined for 51 points.  Joel Ayayi neared a triple-double with 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 10 assists.
