Baba’s Near Perfect In Season-High Night

Official Release | January 30, 2020

The Texas Legends (16-14) finished with eight of their 10 active players in double-digits, including a season-high from Yudai Baba, but fell short of the Western Conference leading Memphis Hustle (23-7) 127-132.

The Legends grabbed the early edge and held it through the first quarter, taking their largest lead of the night (+10).  With 2 minutes left in the half, the Hustle grabbed their first advantage and used a 10-point performance from Dusty Hannahs to head to the locker room up 62-61.

Yudai Baba went off in the third knocking down all six attempts (including three from outside) for 15 points to put Texas back in control.  Dakota Mathias grabbed the first points of the fourth to extend Texas’ lead to nine early.  The Hustle tied it up twice before the midway mark, but Texas maintained their advantage.  Hannahs hit a jumper with 5:30 on the clock that gave the Hustle the lead and they never looked back.  Staying within five points, Texas fought from behind, but Memphis found an answer to every rally attempt, completing their season sweep of the Legends.

Cameron Payne led Texas in his second with the team adding 23 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and a block.  Baba finished 8-of-9 for 19 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals.  Dakota Mathias added 18 points and 3 assists, while Chad Brown and Brandon Fields grabbed 14 points apiece.  Brown also tallied his third double-double with 11 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Fields dished out a game-high 8 assists and grabbed a block.  Jaylen Hoard came one mark short of a double-double with 12 points, 9 rebounds, and Josh Reaves tallied 11 points, 2 steals.  Antonius Cleveland rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Dusty Hannahs led the Hustle with a game-high 33 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Marquis Teague added 24 points, 8 assists, and Jarrod Uthoff threw down 21 points, a game-high 17 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.  Shaq Buchanan finished with 19 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals, and Ahmad Caver came off the bench for 16 points, 8 assists, and 4 steals.
