Quincy Acy had a game-high 29 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Texas Legends (14-28) but the effort was not enough to overcome the Agua Caliente Clippers (21-19) who took home the 125-117 victory.
Acy opened the game with a long ball to put the Legends on top first before Agua Caliente streaked through eight unanswered points. The two teams went back and forth 11 times through the buzzer as Acy fired 12 points to keep Texas in the game 33-35. The Legends grabbed the first four points of the second to gain an edge, but Ray McCallum answered quickly with an outside shot to give the Clippers the lead they would carry through the final buzzer.
Agua Caliente took their largest lead of the night (+21) in the fourth before a 14-2 run by Texas brought the visitors within range. Xavier Rathan-Mayes grabbed back-to-back baskets to bring the Legends within 7 with 56 seconds to play, but the clock worked against them as the home team stayed the course.
Acy finished with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists while Daryl Macon added 23 points, 8 assists, and 2 steals. Rathan-Mayes went 9-of-12 for 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 9 assists, and Billy Preston tallied 13 points, 9 rebounds. Vander Blue and Xavier Johnson rounded out the double-digit scorers coming off the bench for 12 and 10 respectively.
Clippers’ two-way Angel Delgado led Agua Caliente with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks followed closely by Jerome Robinson with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. JJ Avila tallied 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists off the bench joined by McCallum with 14 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists.
