Stephane Lasme led the block party with 8, nearing a triple-double with his 13 points and 12 rebounds. Pierre Jackson fell just one assist short of a triple-double grabbing 25 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists. Jameel Warney led the game on the boards with 13 to top off his 24 points and 3 blocks while Ben Gordon (15), C.J. Williams (13), and Andre Dawkins(13) each added double-digit scores.
Santa Cruz grabbed the first lead and found themselves up 13 before the half. Texas went 0-for-6 from outside in the first before warming up in the second to close in on a single-digit deficit heading to the locker room.
Texas took their first lead of the night midway through the third, using a 20-4 run to ultimately go up 14 at the buzzer. The Legends’ 43-point performance in the third was the largest allowed by the Warriors all season and it was powered by an 11-point, 6-rebound, and 5-assist showing from Jackson. Santa Cruz fought for a rally in the final minutes, but a seven-point gap is the closest the Legends would allow the home team to get. After hitting 56% in the third, the Legends made only 35% in the final minutes but held the home team to 36% and 11% outside in a 23-24 fourth quarter.
The two teams will rematch Saturday at 9pm CT. Fans can catch all the action live at www.TexLegends.com.
